ruins

Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen (1919-2004) was an outstanding Portuguese poet. She often talked about the sea, and Ancient Greece seems omnipresent in her poetry. This post is for Maria.

Despite the ruins and death,
The illusions that fate smashes,
All my dreams are filled with strength
And my bliss rises from ashes
So my hands are never empty.
